ACOUSTIC CEILING PANELS

SOUNDPROOF CEILING PANELS: THE COMPLETE GUIDE

pannelli fonoassorbenti decorativi Garvan Atelier

The acoustics of a room have a crucial impact on the quality of life and well-being of the people in it, so acoustic ceiling panels are an effective solution for reducing reverberation and improving sound quality.
Whether in open-plan offices, conference rooms, or home spaces, the installation of acoustic panels can make a significant difference in acoustic comfort. Garvan Acoustic, offers a range of sound-absorbing ceiling panels that combine Made in Italy excellence with advanced acoustic functionality. In this guide you will find out what they are, why to choose them, and how to use the acoustic treatment configurator to design your custom solution. Before telling you about these solutions, we believe it is important to know the difference or exact meaning of some of the terms.
Understanding these concepts better will help you fully understand the importance of acoustic correction in the environments we frequent every day.

WHAT IS REVERBERATION AND REVERBERATION TIME

Reverberation is the phenomenon that occurs when sound, after being emitted, continues to reflect off the surfaces of a room before fading out completely.
These multiple reflections create an “echo effect” that can make it difficult to clearly understand words or enjoy music.
Reverberation time is a measure of the time it takes sound to drop by 60 decibels after the sound source has been interrupted.
In practice, a longer reverberation time means that the sound lingers in the room for a longer period, while a short reverberation time indicates that the sound dissipates more quickly.
Proper control of reverberation is essential to improve sound clarity in spaces such as offices, conference rooms, or theaters.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SOUND CORRECTION AND SOUND INSULATION

There is often confusion between sound correction and sound insulation, but the two concepts are quite different.
Acoustic correction is concerned with improving the quality of sound within a space by controlling elements such as reverberation andsound absorption to make the environment more sonically comfortable.
This can be achieved through the use of sound-absorbing panels, carpets, curtains and other materials that affect sound propagation.
Sound insulation, on the other hand, focuses on preventing sound transmission between different rooms, preventing outside noise from entering a room or sound produced within a room from exiting by disturbing other spaces. These interventions involve the use of specific materials and techniques to create physical barriers that block the passage of sound waves.
With these concepts clear, we are ready to explore how sound-absorbing ceiling panels can greatly improve the sound quality of a room and why they are an excellent choice for various types of spaces.

WHAT ARE SOUND ABSORBING CEILING PANELS?

Sound-absorbing panels are devices designed to absorb acoustic energy and reduce sound reflection in a room.
In rooms with hard surfaces, such as offices or restaurants, sound tends to bounce around, generating annoying reverberation.
Ceiling-mounted panels help solve this problem, greatly improving sound quality and reducing background noise.

Youtuber Jakidale installing Garvan acoustic correction panels

Among the most innovative solutions offered by Garvan Acoustic are the panels of the SURFACE® and MICROBAFFLE® collections, which combine technology and design for an excellent result both aesthetically and functionally. SURFACE®, for example, is a panel with clean, modern shapes, made with Materica™ finishes, offering a wide range of customization possibilities in terms of size and materials.
Ideal for offices or public spaces, this panel can be installed in a variety of ways, including 4-point or 1-point suspended ceiling, glue-mounted and magnetic. Microbaffle™ consists of ceiling elements that cross fiber, fabric and wood. The succession of lines on the panel creates a rhythmic, almost musical scansion.
The sound-absorbing panels are available in 6 different finishes that combine polyester fiber, fabric, wood and the unique concrete effect.

WHY TO CHOOSE SOUNDPROOF CEILING PANELS

The panels are made from a combination of polyester fiber, fabric and wood, and offer a range of finishes from concrete effect to natural wood.
These panels improve sound quality and reduce noise, ideal for large spaces.

Surface™

Surface™ is a sound-absorbing panel that draws inspiration from the wide slabs used in construction.
It is ideal for those seeking a unique tactile and visual experience, thanks to its Materica CEMENT™ finish, which emulates the effect of concrete.
This panel is designed to combine acoustic efficiency and design, without compromising its sound absorption capacity.
In addition, Surface™ is available in various custom colors and can be printed with high-resolution graphics or covered in fabric, offering a customizable solution for any environment.

WHEN TO USE CEILING SOUNDPROOFING PANELS

Sound-absorbing panels are particularly useful in environments where there is excessive sound reflection, such as:

  • Offices: open-plan work environments benefit greatly from sound-absorbing panels, which reduce background noise and improve concentration.
The SURFACE® collection offers modular solutions that are a perfect fit for flexible spaces.
  • Conference rooms: Optimizes voice clarity during presentations.
  • Restaurants and public places: reducing noise in crowded venues is essential to improve the customer experience.
MICROBAFFLE® panels, with their unobtrusive design and high acoustic performance, fit perfectly into these spaces.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST ACOUSTIC CEILING TILES?

When choosing acoustic ceiling tiles, it is important to consider:

  • Room size: The larger the room, the greater the number of panels needed.
  • Materials: The reverberation time changes according to the materials in the room.
  • Acoustic efficiency: Garvan performs acoustic simulations to calculate reverberation time and ensure maximum efficiency.

You can use our acoustic treatment configurator to design a tailored solution and optimize the acoustic comfort of your space.

How does it work?

At Garvan we can support you in all stages of your acoustic correction work and as a first step you can send us a request through our online configurator.
As soon as we receive the request we will prepare a rough simulation of how many panels you need to correct the room and support you in deciding where to place them.
Up to this point the service is totally free and in 95% of cases no further design work is needed.
In case the rooms are large, with a volume of more than 300 cubic meters a dedicated design with a possible site visit by an acoustic engineer is needed. Even in the case of auditoriums, dedicated movie theaters, or critical environments, the support of an acoustic engineer is advisable.
